Granny Squares: Jackets and Sweaters

One of my memories growing up were afghan blankets made with granny squares. A crochet granny square is technically a square which uses granny clusters and chains. The granny square first made its debut in 1891; however, it wasn’t until 1897 that a written pattern was published in Weldon’s Practical Needlework. The granny square was so popular among American crocheters and so associated with America that in Europe it was called “American crochet”.

While I do not crochet, I have come across these manufactured and individual maker granny square sweaters, jackets, and bags that I just couldn't resist sharing with y'all.
