Vintage Quilt - Trip Around The World
Vintage Quilt - Trip Around The World
This 64- by 64-inch handmade quilt was made from a vintage quilt top (circa 50s) using various cotton fabrics and patterns. The quilt is hand bound and uses 80/20 batting. The complicated work for the patchwork was meticulously machine-sewn and placed in a beautiful burst of colors.
Working to preserve vintage quilts and quilt tops not only honors the craftsmanship of the past but also gives new life to these pieces of art. Quilts tops are soaked and washed prior to redesigning. This is truly a beautiful and fun quilt lovingly preserved.
The Trip Around the World quilt pattern, (sometimes known as Sunshine and Shadows, Postage Stamp, or Grandma's Dream), was a very popular depression era pattern because it could be made with small pieces of scrap fabric. By the 1930s, quilting was no longer just a passive activity for those who could afford it. Textile manufacturing, feed sacks, and repurposed clothing made fabrics readily available to everyone. Quilting was done out of the necessity to keep the family warm and to make do.
Ready to ship. The quilt in the picture will be the quilt you receive, each quilt is handmade, so they are all unique - no two are alike. Additionally, with handmade items there is always an element of human error, whether it be a missed stitch or overlapping design, yet for me the beauty is in the imperfection.
