Vintage Quilts - The Star Dahlia
Vintage Quilts - The Star Dahlia
This a 60- by 72-inch handmade quilt. The quilt top is handmade using a variety of vintage cotton fabrics and muslin in a Star Dahlia pattern, the backing is a cotton/poly fabric. The quilt is hand bound and uses 80/20 batting.
The blocks are hand-sewn into a Star Dahlia pattern. There are 20 blocks in various colors and patterns with a muslin background giving it a scrappy look. The mint and coral sashings were machine-sewn to finish off the quilt. The backing for the quilt is a cotton/poly blend fabric that lends to a soft touch and is completed with a star-like floral quilted pattern.
The Star Dahlia pattern has been a favorite of Lancaster County, PA quilters for many years. The Dahlia pattern is based on a traditional geometric eight-point star, but it takes a distinct diversion from tradition by adding curved, puffy, gathered petals and a round center. These variations on the basic geometric design make the assembly of the patch more difficult. The compensation for that extra effort, however, is a stunning quilt in three dimensions.
Ready to ship. The quilt in the picture will be the quilt you receive, each quilt is handmade, so they are all unique - no two are alike. Additionally, with handmade items there is always an element of human error, whether it be a missed stitch or overlapping design, yet for me the beauty is in the imperfection.
