Quilted Kantha Jacket - Pink Nehru Design
Quilted Kantha Jacket - Pink Nehru Design
This handmade tamarack style jacket is made from a Kantha quilt. This quilt was created using two layers of cotton fabric and machine-quilting with a straight line design. The outside cotton fabric is in a patchwork design in various designs, the inside cotton fabric is pink with a beautiful floral pattern.
A basic jacket design with two front pockets, a one inch Nehru collar, and finished off with a button-up closure using button loops. The hem of the sleeves and the jacket offer a split seam. The sleeves can be rolled up for a comfy look. This is a fitted design with matching seams sewn along the front of the jacket to define the look. This is a lightweight jacket great for Fall and Spring.

Ready to ship. The quilted jacket in the picture will be the quilted jacket you receive, each jacket is handmade, so they are all unique - no two are alike. With handmade items there is always an element of human error, whether it be a missed stitch or overlapping design, yet for me the beauty is in the imperfection.
Kantha is a centuries-old tradition of stitching patchwork cloth from rags, which evolved from the thrift of rural women in the Bengali region of the sub-continent - today the eastern Indian states of West Bengal and Orissa, and Bangladesh. Kantha is also the name for quilt itself. The stitch is basically a simple running stitch that can be in straight lines or a complex and intricate pattern that gives an extra dimension of pattern in addition to the printed or woven designs in the fabric.
